​Safe Driver NZ was founded by Damien Chung, a 29 years old avid traveller and a former general aviation pilot with a goal to becoming a commercial pilot but due to a vehicle collision he was no longer able to continue that career path, with the accident impacting his life in such drastic way, he was inspired to bring his skillset both as a former pilot and as a proficient driver to educate the next generation of drivers, learning the ins and outs through combining technology, human factors and decision making skills. He is a huge believer that the current broken training system leads to the rapid deterioration of driving etiquette in this country. It is time to stop people from passing bad habits from generation to generation, the increasing traffic on our roads and the lack of accountability are causing more frustrations, road rage incidents and accidents are sharply on the rise due to the lack of a proper system to educate drivers. These sorts of incidents will lead to increased insurance costs which could prevent more people from insuring their vehicles leading to more hardship and financial debt in the future.​ He has logged tens of thousands of hours during his first few years from driving on rideshare platforms, across the entire North and South Island of NZ, and various overseas roads across Australia and the USA. He has driven all types of roads from highways to mountains, countryside to cities, he started with basic ICE vehicles and has since experienced various types of technologically advanced vehicles and all types of drivetrains such as Petrol, Diesel, Hybrid, PHEV and BEV. ​The ultimate goal of Safe Driver NZ is to be a reputable road safety campaign organisation working with relevant government organisations to improve road safety while working with individuals to improve or begin the journey of driving. Our goal right now is to provide instruction on a smaller scale within our local region, and to continue streamlining our processes, courses and instruction methods to ensure that we can be ranked as one of the best in the industry for road safety.​ We are one of the best in sustainability within New Zealand, starting with our vehicle to travel when providing our services, and in the future we are also committed to providing zero-emission training vehicles.
